We paid for a 10x30 car camping spot and we were determined to get a good spot so we arrived at the gates before they opened. They said the gates would open at 12 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, but they really didn't start searching our cars until about 2 p.m. We pulled up at 1 p.m. and we began to drink beer. No glass was allowed so we brought Corona cans. That's when you know you read the rules because nobody ever drinks the cans of Corona.
So from 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon until late Sunday night we were, I guess you could say, partying!!! And believe me it was a great party. From the first night when Jay-Z was the headliner and he finished the night off with a Beyonce appearance, to watching the place turn into a rave when DJ Tiesto came on late the next night. I thought it was never going to end. We could hear the bass from the speakers from our camp site. We were in the first row right next to the port-a-potties, which was one of the downfalls. Always having people use our site as a walkway wasn't always fun, but without it we wouldn't have been able to say hello to the most random strangers in the world.
I met a couple from Australia, who were living in British Columbia, Canada and they were just passing through at 3 a.m. and I asked if they wanted to have a beer and hang out. That was the best part of Coachella, no not "Highway Coachella", but the fact that I met almost every kind of person that God created. And just when I thought I saw the most random characters, I saw one the next one that topped the one before. I had one of the best times in my life at Coachella. Whether it was walking to the market, waking up next to the car, making a beer run to Costco, or watching people a have the time of their life while tripping out on ecstasy.
I may never go to Coachella again, but I at least know that I went once and it is something that MUST be experienced by anyone who thinks they can handle a 4 day grungy, grimy, wait in an hour long line for the shower, escapade. I loved Coachella and would never say anything bad about my weekend in Indio, California, where the people rule, no authorities care what you do as long as you don't kill anybody, and the art and music rule the land. If you get the chance take the plunge and make it an EXPERIENCE!!!!
